Approaches to Climate Literacy: Responding to AB 285

< Back to Resources

California’s AB 285 (2023) requires that science courses for students in grades 1-12 include “the causes and effects of climate change and methods to mitigate and adapt to climate change.” Hear from district leaders who are already implementing climate literary initiatives and preview the “AB 285 Guidance for Districts” resource created by the CAELI’s County Office of Education Innovation Hub. Join us as we discuss the implications of the law, how to respond, and what you need to know for the 2024-2025 school year.

Presenters:

  • Jerry Song, Los Angeles Unified School District
  • Ellen Mc Clure, Berkeley Unified School District
  • Nate Ivy, Fremont Unified School District
  • Tamara Basepayne, San Joaquin County Office of Education
  • Amity Sandage, Santa Cruz County Office of Education
