Gloria Harwood

Laguna Beach Unified School District

Gloria Harwood is a dedicated advocate for environmental education and sustainability, currently serving as the coordinator of environmental literacy for the Laguna Beach Unified School District in South Orange County, CA. With over a decade of experience in education, including nine years as a science teacher, Gloria possesses an understanding of the transformative power of environmental literacy within the educational landscape. She holds a Masters of Environmental Studies from California State University, Fullerton, with an emphasis in Sustainability. This advanced degree equips her with the expertise to design and implement engaging and effective environmental literacy curricula and support district sustainability goals. In her role, Gloria oversees site green teams, cultivating them into dynamic hubs of creativity and innovation for hands-on, experiential learning. This empowers students to play an active role in environmental stewardship and drive projects with tangible impacts. She is adept at forging connections between student initiatives and local partnerships, ensuring that their efforts yield real-world benefits and contribute to the broader sustainability goals of their communities. Additionally, Gloria supports the development and maintenance of school gardens, recognizing their potential as living laboratories for students to connect theory with practice and foster a deep appreciation for the natural world.
