Alexis Fineman

Alexis is an educator and environmental advocate who supports SEI’s K-12 educational programming across California. Alexis has a background in formal and non-formal educational settings. Prior to joining SEI, she taught at an inquiry-based school, where she designed wide-ranging elementary curricula to integrate ecoliteracy into everyday lessons. She has also taught in school gardens, on working farms and ranches, and in the great outdoors. Her climate and environmental advocacy led her to a seat on the San Anselmo Town Council, where she works to implement the Town’s Climate Action Plan. She established San Anselmo’s first Climate Action Fund, spearheaded the formation of the Town’s Racial Equity committee, and has brought forth proposals and policies to reduce emissions, and is working to build capacity for local climate action through regional partnerships. She chairs a countywide Climate Action Committee composed of elected officials representing eleven jurisdictions and serves on the board of Home Ground Habitat, a native plant nursery and educational center. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Wesleyan University and is certified in permaculture design.
